Master’s thesis is a certification work, prepared on the basis of authoring, and allows you to solve problems that matter in the field of study.
The work is carried out with the participation of the supervisor. In terms of complexity, the master’s thesis is located at the initial stage. The research project can be compared with a diploma, but having a more scientific character and a greater practical part. This type of work is a continuation of the diploma and, at times, all developments are included in the dissertation.
The topic of the thesis is determined at the preparatory stage of work. The listener can independently choose a topic from the list, or offer the actually developed version, if there is the expediency of its consideration. The main task in writing a thesis is to demonstrate the ability of the undergraduate to research work on the chosen specialization.
Any scientific work begins with an introduction. First of all, the area in which the work is performed is indicated. All statements must be accompanied by references, which are numbered in a continuous manner. Alternative citation is possible, but its application depends on whether a similar method is adopted in an educational institution.
Then the determination of the relevance of the work, including theoretical and practical significance, scientific novelty of the problem. It takes place to indicate the works of scientists who also worked on the study of the problem. Next, the goal setting and the definition of the objectives of the study. At the end of the introduction you can say a few words about the methods of solving the tasks. The final stage is the description of the structure of work.
The first chapter contains a critical analysis of the results of research by famous authors. You can use personal results that are of interest. All statements must be cited by reference to the source.
The second chapter describes the research methodology, experiments, materials, calculations. If the author has improved some techniques, then it must be indicated. The chapter must contain conclusions at the end.
The third chapter contains the original research results. First of all, an analysis of the results obtained is carried out in the process of implementation of the second part, and then they are discussed, conclusions and proposals are formulated. Usually, a whole paragraph is distinguished for this, which has a corresponding name – a discussion of the results. But, it is necessary to understand the difference between the results and their interpretation.
Scientists can also see different results of a study differently and, depending on their experience and knowledge, interpret in their own way. For these purposes, the experiment should be described in detail in order to avoid double perception. In the paragraph devoted to the discussion of the results, it is necessary to clarify what a formula means, a graph, what questions may arise.
It is necessary to draw conclusions first without the use of a discussion form, which will be considered reasonable, as well as proposals that have a discussion character, where to make an assumption. At the end of the chapter it is necessary to draw conclusions on the results.
Master’s theses usually contain three chapters, making more chapters is allowed only with a large amount of research base. However, too much can have a negative impact on scientific experience, since one gets the impression that the author has not learned to single out the most important things from the crowd. This fact is more likely to be considered a flaw.
